Audio Silent Part Remover
Silent parts in audio are the stretches where nothing meaningful is playing: the start before someone speaks, long waits in the middle, or a minute of room tone at the end.
This tool finds those parts for you, shows them in red on the waveform and deletes them with one click, joining the remaining audio into one continuous file.
Where it helps
- Long raw recordings: Strip the idle sections from a screen recording's audio track.
- Lecture captures: Remove the break and waiting time from recorded sessions.
- Sound effects and samples: Trim the empty tail from audio clips before you export them.
Tips for the best result
Use a larger minimum silence (1 s or more) when you only want to delete long silent parts and leave short pauses untouched.
Edge padding is 0 ms by default, which gives the tightest cut and suits sound effects. For speech, raise it to 20 to 40 ms if word endings sound clipped.
Which settings should I use?
- Default: -45 dB threshold, 0.1 s minimum silence. A balanced first try for most clean audio.
- Podcast: -40 dB, 0.4 s. Removes long pauses and keeps short natural ones.
- Voice note: -42 dB, 0.25 s. Good for phone recordings and WhatsApp messages.
- AI voice / TTS: -50 dB, 0.15 s. Generated speech is very clean, so a low threshold is enough.
- Lecture: -38 dB, 0.5 s. Handles room noise and long thinking pauses in classes and talks.
Frequently asked questions
How do I delete only long silent parts?
Increase the minimum silence slider. Gaps shorter than that value are left in place.
Can it remove the silence at the beginning and end?
Yes. Leading and trailing silence counts as a gap too, so it is trimmed when it is longer than your minimum silence.
Will quiet music be treated as silence?
If music is quieter than your threshold, yes. Lower the threshold to keep quiet passages.
Can I preview what will be removed?
Yes, the original waveform marks removed parts in red and you can play both versions.
What happens if the whole file is below the threshold?
The tool tells you nothing was left and suggests a lower threshold, so you never download an empty file.
